The 22-year old talent plying his trade with Liverpool impressed Jurgen Klopp with his performance against Stoke City. Kevin Stewart was handed his full premier league debut in the match as The Reds rounded up their opponents in a 4-1 victory to boost their chances for UEFA Europa League next season.
Liverpool are in 8th position in the English Premier League table with 48 points but with two games in hand. Southampton are 7th position on the log with only two points above The Reds while West Ham in 6th are four points clear from Liverpool though with a game in hand.
Kevin Stewart came through for Liverpool after suffering ankle ligament damage in training two months ago.
After the game, he told reporters: “There were a few mistakes in there which I’ll need to learn from but overall I think it went well. I tried a bit towards the end but that was down to not having played much recently. I’ll get that fitness back.”
He continued with the advice of Klopp.
“The manager told me to keep things simple – to be aggressive, to be confident and to defend well. He takes the pressure off players and gives you the belief to go out there and perform. I do get nervous but I think a few nerves keeps me aware and on my toes. The manager has shown a lot of faith in me and that gives me confidence. I need to keep improving and listening to him.”
Klopp made several changes to the squad ahead of the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday. With Jordan Henderson ruled out for the rest of the season, Klopp had to make some of the changes. Key player for the squad, Emre Can, was on suspension. The German defensive midfielder has been an important component of the squad this season. His suspension allowed Stewart and Ojo get their first Premier League action. Roberto Firmino and Sturridge led the attack that saw The Reds live up to expectations.
